Prologue

Jae's jaw clenched as he stared at the woman before him.

The room was silent except for the sound of Fiora's uneven breathing.

A bitter laugh escaped him.

"I never loved you."

The words hit harder than any slap.

"I could never."

His face remained expressionless, devoid of any warmth. The same face that once made her feel safe now looked at her as though she were something beneath him.

"How could I?" he continued. "You killed her."

Fiora's breath caught in her throat.

"You killed Grace."

Grace.

The name echoed through her mind.

Her vision blurred as tears welled in her eyes. Her knees threatened to give out beneath her weight.

How?

How did he find out?

A thousand thoughts raced through her mind, each more terrifying than the last.

No.

This couldn't be happening.

Her trembling fingers curled into fists as she desperately shook her head.

"I didn't—"

"Enough."

The single word silenced her.

Jae took a step forward.

His dark eyes held nothing. No grief. No love. No mercy.

Only hatred.

"I'm going to make your life a living hell, Fiora Park."

The threat hung heavily in the air.

"I won't kill you."

His voice was calm.

Dangerously calm.

"Death is a mercy you don't deserve. I'll break you instead. Day by day. Piece by piece. You'll beg me to stop. You'll pray for death long before I ever give it to you."

Fiora felt her strength leave her body.

Her knees hit the floor.

"No..." she whispered.

Tears streamed down her cheeks.

"I didn't kill her."

Her voice cracked.

"I didn't."

"For God's sake, stop lying."

Jae's tone was sharp enough to cut.

"Jae, please." She looked up at him through tear-filled eyes. "It wasn't like that. It was an accident. She was a wanted criminal. I—"

"Bullshit."

The word struck her like a bullet.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Jae turned away.

Without another glance.

Without another word.

The door slammed shut behind him.

Fiora remained on the floor, trembling.

Alone.

Broken.

And haunted by a single question.

How did Jae learn the truth about Grace?
